Working with Ministries
GoDoChurch provides you with four ways to organise your database: lists, groups, ministries, and church roles. If you haven’t yet read An Overview of GoDoChurch we suggest you start there as it explains how these four modules differ from one another and will help you understand how best to use the Ministries module.
Overview of the Ministries module
Most churches have ministries that serve their church in some way - it can be the Worship Ministry, the Volunteer team, or a hospitality team.
A ministry is usually a group of people with a leader and a specific function, usually with the aim to serve. The Ministry module allows you to create those ministries in your database. This makes communicating and organising these ministries even easier than before.
Permission Levels
Executive-level permission is required to work on the Ministries module.
Creating a new ministry
To create a ministry:
Open the main menu and click Church Life >> Ministries.
Click New Ministry.
Fill in the Ministry Name, the description, the contact person and type of ministry.
Select the permission level that is required for a profile to edit this ministry.
Select the tickbox if you want the contact person to receive an email when someone is added to this ministry.
Decide if this ministry should show on the mobile app.
Lastly, if applicable, click on Show Advanced Options, select the News Channel associated with this ministry.
Click Save.
Adding members to a ministry
There are 2 ways to add members to a ministry.
1. To add members to a ministry via the Ministries module:
Open the Ministries module from the main menu: Church Life >> Ministries.
Click on the Members button of the ministry you want to add members to.
In the text field provided, start typing the name of the person you want to add (you will need to type in 3 letters before the system will auto-suggest someone).
Click on the name of the person you would like to add, and then click the Add Person button. They will then be added to your ministry.
To remove a person from a list simply click the Remove button next to their name.
Tip: if you need to quickly add someone to your database click the Quick Add button in the top menu bar. This will only add them to your database; you will still need to add them to the ministry of your choice.
2. To add members to a ministry via the person’s profile page:
Use the quick search box in the top menu bar to find the person you are looking for.
On their profile window, click on Involvement.
Scroll down to the Ministries heading and tick the box of the ministries you want to add the person to.
Click on Done to save the changes and close the window. The person is now added to the ministries you indicated.
NB: You can only do this if your permission level is high enough to edit the specific ministry team.
Sending messages to a ministry
Sending messages to a ministry, whether they are SMSes, emails, or push-notifications, is very easy. All you need to do is open a ministry by clicking the Members button next to a ministry and then clicking on the Message button at the top of the screen. From there you can select what kind of message you would like to send.
